  • Soil solarisation or Trichoderma treatment before nursery bed preparation
  • Seed treatment: Thiram 3 g/kg seed
  • Spray Imidacloprid at 15 days for thrips in nursery
Transplanting

Rabi: Oct–Nov / Kharif: Jul

  • Basal dose: FYM + SSP + MOP + ZnSO₄
  • Root dip in Carbendazim 0.1% before transplanting
  • Apply Carbofuran 3G for onion fly at transplanting
Bulbing

Rabi: Jan–Feb / Kharif: Sep–Oct

  • Top dressing: Urea + Potassium Chloride for bulb development

Which insecticide is best for thrips on onion?

Spinosad 45% SC (0.3 ml/L), Fipronil 5% SC (1.5 ml/L), or Emamectin Benzoate 5% SG (0.4 g/L) are the most effective for thrips on onion. Add a sticker/spreader to improve adhesion on waxy onion leaves. Spray in early morning or evening.

How to control purple blotch in onion?

Spray Mancozeb 75% WP (2 g/L) preventively, and use Tebuconazole 25.9% EC (0.5 ml/L) or Iprodione 50% WP (1.5 g/L) at first disease appearance. Avoid overhead irrigation and ensure good air circulation in the field.

What is the recommended fertilizer dose for Rabi onion?

For Rabi onion: 100 kg N + 50 kg P₂O₅ + 60 kg K₂O per hectare. Apply full P and K + 1/3 N as basal. Apply remaining N in two equal splits at 30 and 45 DAT. Supplement with Sulphur 25 kg/ha for pungency and shelf life.
