FAQs

Sugarcane Farming Questions

How to control red rot disease in sugarcane?

Red rot (Colletotrichum falcatum) has no cure once established. Prevention is key: use certified disease-free setts, treat with hot water at 50°C for 2 hours or Carbendazim 0.1% soak. Destroy infected clumps and do not carry ratoon from infected plots.

What is the recommended fertilizer dose for sugarcane?

For plant crop sugarcane: 250 kg N + 90 kg P₂O₅ + 90 kg K₂O per hectare. Apply P + K + 1/3 N as basal, and split remaining N in 3 top dressings at 30, 60, and 90 days. For ratoon crop, increase N by 20%.

How to manage sugarcane ratoon for good yield?

For healthy ratoon: gap-fill within 20 days of harvest, apply Trichoderma + FYM in furrows, cut the stubble low (2–3 cm above ground), apply Urea + MOP immediately after harvest irrigation, and rogue out grassy shoot disease-affected clumps immediately.
